The University of Utah ski team suffered a surprising defeat in the New Mexico Ski Invitational. The Utes, with 140 points, finished fourth behind Colorado (260), New Mexico (176) and Wyoming (170).

The Utes finished second in alpine events, but were a distant fourth in nordic. This is the poorest showing for a Utah team on nearly a decade. In January, the Utes squeezed out a win in its own invitational, but finished second last week in the Colorado Invitational. The Utes scored only 31 points in cross country, to 127 for Colorado.
