The Utah USA/Amateur Boxing Federation is hosting the Region 9 Championships, considered to be the first steps towards the 1992 Olympics. The event will be held in the Fairgrounds Coliseum on Friday and Saturday.

Top finishers will then go on to National Championship bouts at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., starting Feb. 25.All eliminations for the Utah fights will start at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Championships will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Top Utah fighers will be Patrick Lucero (106 lbs.), James Villistrigo (112 lbs.), Frankie Madrid (119 lbs.), Anthony Ojomo (125 lbs.), Courtney Farrior (139 lbs.), Joe Gomez (147 lbs.), Ray Montoya (156 lbs.), Larry Peck (165 lbs.), Tarri Johnson (178 lbs.), Douglas Moore (178 lbs.), Benji Angulia (heavyweight) and Samson Pouha (201-plus lbs.).
