A Kearns man was in critical condition Friday after being caught in a fire at his home.

Bradley Greenwood, 40, was apparently sleeping in a bedroom at 4781 S. 4015 West when the fire broke out around 1:30 p.m., said Salt Lake County Fire Lt. Dennis Steadman.Greenwood attempted to escape the blaze but collapsed in an adjacent room. When fire crews arrived, paramedic Scott McBride and firefighter Fenton Quinn entered the home and pulled the victim to safety.

Greenwood, who had stopped breathing, was taken to Pioneer Valley Hospital and then flown by helicopter to University Hospital, where he was in critical condition with second-degree burns.

Steadman said the house sustained more than $9,000 damage in the fire, the cause of which is still under investigation.
