Four teenage girls were injured Friday when their southbound car was hit broadside by an eastbound pickup at 2100 S. 7200 West.

West Valley Fire Department personnel needed 25 minutes to extricate two of the girls. According to public information officer Lt. Dennis Steadman, the car had virtually folded around them. Fire officers had to remove two doors and pull the metal out before the girls could be rescued.Two of the injured were flown to LDS Hospital. One girl is in critical condition with head injuries. The other is in stable condition with a broken femur and possible internal injuries. The other two were taken to Pioneer Valley Hospital, where they were being held for X-rays and observation.

The names of the injured teenagers were not released.

There were no injuries in the eastbound vehicle.
