Police are following several leads in connection with a bomb found Monday outside the Orem Library.
A city employee notified police about a "suspicious item" on the ground below a library window Monday afternoon. The item turned out to be a bomb that had apparently been attached to the building but came loose. The bomb ignited but failed to exploded."We can assume this is not a terrorist incident," said police spokesman Gerald Nielsen. "There have been no calls, no notes . . . "
Nielsen did elaborate on the structure of the bomb, saying the device had electronic circuitry enclosed in a black box the size of a 3-by-5-inch file card holder. It had two battery sources, one apparently for the timer and another set to ignite explosives.
Orem police gave the bomb to the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms for analysis.
