S'PLORE and the Disgusting Brothers Band will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the alliance between the musicians and the organization that provides outdoor experiences for people with disabilities and special needs on Saturday, Feb. 16, at 7:30 p.m. at the Red Lion Hotel.
The band and S'PLORE have a special relationship. Members of the band have served as river guides, board members and volunteers since S'PLORE's inception.Founded in 1979, the group began providing river trips for people with disabilities and expanded programs to include cross-country skiing and sledding, climbing, canoeing and sculling. Clients include people with physical disabilities, mental retardation, visual impairments, hearing impairments, epilepsy, cerebral palsy, diabetes, AIDS, autism, drug and alcohol addictions and multiple sclerosis. Adolescent psychiatric patients, juvenile offenders and the economically disadvantaged also participate. Over the past 10 years, 3,300 have enjoyed the outdoor experiences provided by S'PLORE.
