Schools, summer camps and government programs for children may be eligible for the Summer Food Service Program offered by the State Office of Education.
The goal of the program is to provide a nourishing lunch for low-income children during summer vacation.To qualify, programs must be a public or non-profit private school that qualifies for food service; a public or non-profit private residential summer camp; a unit of local, municipal or county government; or a private, non-profit organization.
The summer program can operate only in areas where at least 50 percent of the children would qualify for free or reduced-price meals under national school meal programs.
