Kenneth W. Keown, the new chairman of the South Jordan Planning Commission, is forecasting continued, controlled growth for the community.

"If the past year is any indication, I think the city will maintain the same pace of growth," he said, adding, "Our goal will be to encourage development while preserving the country atmosphere."Keown, 43, has been a resident of South Jordan since 1981. He replaces Gary Garner as chairman.

Characterizing the commission as "realistic," Keown said he and other members welcome the growing commercial interest in the city. "We can work with them."

He said builders have done a "nice job" with subdivisions in South Jordan. And he also praised city officials for their foreward-looking approach to community planning.
