The American Folk Dance Ensemble at Brigham Young University will participate in the Sept. 17 opening ceremonies of the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, Korea.
The Seoul Olympic Organizing Committee invited 12 dance companies from six continents to show the spirit of folk art of the world in a seven-minute segment at the official opening in the main stadium. Of this group, BYU is the only representative from North America. The group was already planning an Asian tour so it was easy to accept the invitation, said Rex Barrington, tour manager.
"This is unlike any honor we have ever received," said Ed Austin, artistic director of the BYU dancers. "We are absolutely ecstatic."
