Kaye Davies and Becky Chlepas tie yellow and red, white and blue ribbons on a mailbox in their Salt Lake neighborhood after a chance meeting resulted in a whole neighborhood banding together to decorate their homes in support of the troops serving in the Persian Gulf. Davies met a neighbor, Anna Marie Nelson, in a store where Davies was purchasing materials to decorate her home. Nelson became interested in doing the same thing, and the two women spearheaded efforts to involve all 17 homes on the Woodridge Circle cul-de-sac. Nelson, an Army veteran who barely missed serving in Vietnam, said the onset of war in the gulf struck a note deep inside her, especially since her nephew and two of her cousins are currently serving in Operation Desert Storm.
