An Ogden man has been formally charged with vehicle homicide for the death of a Weber State College foreign student on March 30.

Edward D. Archuleta, 32, was charged with the third-degree felony before 3rd Circuit Judge Parley Baldwin. A May 9 preliminary hearing date was set.Takashi Uemori, 21, of Japan, was riding a motorcycle March 29 when he was hit by a car driven by Archuleta. Prosecutors believe Archuleta was driving drunk when he turned left in front of Uemori on Washington Boulevard.

Uemori died from massive head injuries the following morning. He was not wearing a helmet.

If convicted, Archuleta could be sentenced to serve up to five years in the state prison.
