A trial date of March 19 has been scheduled for an Ogden man accused of shaking to death his girlfriend's baby.

Mel P. Gallegos, 38, pleaded not guilty Monday to a charge of second-degree felony manslaughter before 2nd District Judge Stanton M. Taylor.Gallegos is charged in the Nov. 25 death of his live-in girlfriend's child, 7-month-old Adam Quade Anderson. The child was dead on arrival at McKay-Dee Hospital, where he was brought by Gallegos and the child's mother.

During a preliminary hearing Jan. 18, two doctors testified that blood found between the baby's brain and skull, plus hemorrhages in the left eye, indicated death was caused by "whiplash shaken baby syndrome."

Gallegos was taken from the hospital on Nov. 25 by police and arrested.
