The National Institutes of Health has awarded a $782,500 grant to the University of Utah School of Medicine to help upgrade the medical school's animal care facilities.

The grant comes from the NIH's Research Resources Division, said Jack L. Taylor, university director of animal resources. The university will match it with $500,000 to renovate and equip the facility."We are extremely pleased with this grant because it confirms the National Institutes of Health recognizes the quality of research at the university," Taylor said.

Next May, the School of Medicine will spend another $5.4 million building a new animal care facility. The two-story structure will be connected to the existing building.
