A Salt Lake police officer was injured Tuesday when bullet fragments struck his face.

Glen Taft, a rookie police officer, was hit with a bullet fragment about 12:45 p.m. while training at a shooting range in Parley's Canyon. A bullet apparently fragmented when it hit the target and part of it struck him in the cheek, said Salt Lake Police Lt. Marty Vuyk.He was in good condition Tuesday, but the bullet fragments will have to be surgically removed, Vuyk said.
