Local psychologists and counselors from Intermountain Health Care's Psych Resources will host a toll-free phone line Thursday, Jan. 31, to answer questions about depression.

The toll-free number - 1 (800) 876-1989 - will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.Many Utahns suffer depression, said Dr. Gerald Lazar, medical director of Wasatch Canyons Hospital. "Most people associate depression with an emotional weakness or disorder. New research indicates a biological and genetic link to depression and suggests that it needs to be treated from both an emotional and medical approach."

Symptoms that may indicate depression include a combination of fatigue, sleep disturbances, loss of appetite, persistent sadness or empty mood, loss of concentration and memory.
