When people say that the Alm Family 4-H'ers really cleaned up at this year's Salt Lake County Fair - they don't mean they swept out the barns.
Juliann Alm, 14, captured both the overall Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion prizes with two of her hogs. She also took the Grand Champion ribbon in the "Fit and Show" competition.Sister Melanie Alm, 12, took a third place in the hog show with one of her pigs, while animals entered by brother Brian, 16, took fourth and fifth place. Even 9-year-old Emilee, a first-timer in 4-H, took sixth place with one of her porcines.
Fair officials said they couldn't remember something like this ever having happened before.
But the exploits of the Alm Family didn't end with the hog competition. Brian took a blue ribbon in the sheep show and Emilee took a second.
Juliann, Melanie and Emilee also took home first place "Best of Show" ribbons in the sewing competition, which allows them enter their dresses in the Utah State Fair. The three girls also took first places in cooking.
