For more than 20 years, Springville residents were able to buy gasoline at Kent and Afton Johnson's Brookside Service on the northeast corner of 400 South and 400 East, but not anymore.

Residents who want to buy gasoline from the Johnsons now will have to travel to the southwest corner of 400 South and 400 East to the new Brookside Service. The Johnsons, with co-owners Bruce and Sandra Rees, opened the new Brookside Service just before Christmas, but the official grand opening was held this week and ends Wednesday. The Johnsons decided to build the new convenience store to meet new Environmental Protection Agency guidelines pertaining to gasoline storage tanks.

Besides a place to buy gasoline, Springville residents often relied on the old Brookside Service for groceries, snacks and movies. But the Johnsons say people can find that and more at the new store.

The new store features a drive-up window, videos, an arcade room and a fast-food restaurant. The fast-food restaurant serves soups, all grill items, tacos, and fish and chicken dipped in homemade batter. The store's six fueling stations all sell regular, unleaded and premium unleaded gasoline. One has a diesel-fuel pump.

The store is open from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and remains open until midnight on Friday and Saturday.
