The Federal Election Commission is suing the National Rifle Association's lobbying arm and political action committee for more than $830,000 over allegedly illegal contributions.

Court records show the suit alleges the NRA's lobbying arm illegally gave $415,744 to the political action committee during the 1988 campaign. The act was illegal because political action committees, which give money to political candidates, cannot accept corporate money, the lawsuit says. An NRA official denied any wrongdoing and said the FEC was incorrectly interpreting the election law.
