A man identified by police as a small-time heroin dealer was convicted of killing a woman prosecutors say was slain because of her neighborhood anti-drug crusade.

A jury in Brooklyn state Supreme Court on Tuesday found William Figueroa guilty of murder in the August 1989 death of Maria Hernandez.Spokesman Patrick Clark of the Brooklyn district attorney's office said Figueroa faces 25 years to life in prison when he is sentenced Feb. 19.

Figueroa was also convicted of reckless endangerment and criminal weapons possession. He was acquitted of trying to kill Hernandez's husband, Carlos.
