Walt Dabney, the National Park Service's chief of ranger activities, will leave Washington, D.C., to become superintendent of Canyonlands National Park on Aug. 11.

He succeeds Harvey Wickware, who will retire later this year, the park service said in a release received Monday.Dabney also will supervise activities at Arches National Park and Natural Bridges National Monument, and will serve as state coordinator for all Utah National Park Service areas.
