Raymond Burr says taking the "Perry Mason" role might have been a mistake. "If I could live it over again, the only thing I would not do is the `Perry Mason' show," Burr says in an interview in Parade magazine. "I certainly wouldn't do it for as many years as it was done (1957 to 1966)."

By the time he took the lawyer role, Burr had suffered through the deaths of two wives and his 10-year-old son, who had leukemia, and was trying to lose himself in his work."If I was ever going to have another marriage and a family again, it would have had to have been done in those (Perry Mason) years," Burr says. "I could have done other things in this business that weren't all-consuming but I didn't. Personally, because of that, I think I paid too high a price."
