- Iraq claimed Tuesday that allied prisoners of war were hit in coalition air raids and that at least one was killed in an attack on a government building.

- In an interview with CNN, Iraqi President Saddam Hussein hinted an estimated 100 Iraqi airplanes that have flown to sanctuary in Iran might somehow return to battle. Iran has vowed to remain neutral in the war and says it will not permit the planes to leave before the war ends.- The U.S. Central Command said Tuesday that the oil slick appears to be breaking up in the Persian Gulf. The spill was estimated at 460 million gallons.

- The Pentagon said the allies conducted more than 2,600 sorties Tuesday. The U.S. Central Command says a U.S. Marine AV-8 Harrier jet was lost in combat, the first allied loss in more than two days.

- The Pentagon acknowledged for the first time Monday that seven American airmen who had been listed as missing in action are now considered prisoners of war.
