At least 24 people were killed in three clashes between communist rebels and government troops over the weekend, police said Tuesday.

A police report said seven soldiers were killed when they were ambushed Sunday by guerrillas in Libmanan, Camarines Sur province, 180 miles southeast of the capital.On Saturday, troops repulsed an attack by guerrillas on a remote outpost in Maconacon town, Isabela province, 200 miles north of Manila, leaving eight rebels and three militiamen dead.

In central Negros Occidental province, a soldier fired at a crowd after losing in a card game during a town fiesta Sunday, killing five civilians. Police later killed the soldier.
