To celebrate National Heart Month, the intensive care unit at Holy Cross Jordan Valley Hospital is sponsoring a series of free lectures during February as part of its second annual Heart Healthy Extravaganza.
The lectures will be held each Wednesday at 7 p.m. on the second floor of the Medical Plaza Building, 3590 W. 9000 South, and are free and open to the public. Discussions will conclude with a question and answer period giving participants an opportunity to have individualized problems addressed. Free child care will be provided and blood pressure monitoring will be offered before each lecture at no charge.The following topics will be addressed during the series:
- Feb. 6 - Lisa Loertscher, registered dietician, will teach how to recognize foods in the supermarket that are high in fats and cholesterol and how to choose a healthier alternative.
- Feb. 13 - Dr. David Zackrison, internal medicine, will address cholesterol buildup in the blood vessels.
- Feb. 20 - Dr. Kevin Johnson, internal medicine, will discuss heart attacks and the recovery period.
- Feb. 27 - Dr. Barbara Rizzardi, internal medicine, will conclude the series by explaining how to eat and exercise your way to a healthier heart.
