Walter Davis rejected a deal that would have sent him from Denver back to Phoenix, where he was at the center of a 1987 scandal, The Oregonian reported Saturday.
The Nuggets instead traded Davis to the Portland Trail Blazers last week in a three-way deal that sent Portland guard Drazen Petrovic to the New Jersey Nets.Davis, a 14-year veteran and six-time All-Star, played his first 11 seasons at Phoenix. His 1987 problems became known as "Waltergate."
After arriving in Portland, Davis told The Oregonian he was flattered that Phoenix wanted him back.
"But for my own peace of mind, I didn't want to go back to Phoenix and go through the rehashing of that stuff again," he said.
