A plastic plate that was apparently left on a stove burner at the Quality Inn, 4465 S. Century Drive, filled a room and a first floor hallway with smoke but caused little damage Sunday night.

Murray Fire Capt. Bob Fonger said dispatchers received a report of a possible fire at the hotel at 6:28 p.m. Upon arriving on the scene, firefighters traced the smoke to a smoldering plastic plate on a kitchenette stove.
