It's big-band time at the historic Masonic Temple on east South Temple, where a dinner dance is planned for Saturday, Feb. 2, at 7 p.m.
Forty years ago, dinner dances - with good food, pleasant conversation and enticing music - were common. Moffet E. Felker, president of the Masonic Temple Association, hopes to revive the tradition with this Endowment Fund Promotion Committee fund-raiser.Richard Coleman is chairman, assisted by Ruth Hodges and Roberta Patrick, both past grand matrons of the Order of Eastern Star; Richard Leader, treasurer of the Grand Lodge of Utah, and Robert Kelm, Shrine organist.
The Phoenix Band will provide the music, and a gourmet dinner will be served. Proceeds from the event will support the Temple Endowment Fund. Interest from this fund is used to refurbish and maintain the Masonic Temple, which was built in 1926 and is guarded by two granite sphinxes.
The event is open to all.Tickets are $30 each. Reservations, information and tickets can be obtained by calling the Masonic Temple office at 364-4421.
