The Humane Society of Utah is sponsoring an essay contest for high school students interested in exploring alternatives to the use of living animals in scientific research projects.

Cash prizes will be awarded for the three best essays. Essays should be a maximum of 1,000 words and should exhibit the student's awareness and understanding of the kinds of non-animal research alternatives that now exist or are being developed, and the ways in which these methods open up new avenues of inquiry that are equal to or superior to traditional animal experimentation.Typed entries must be submitted to the Humane Society office at 4613 S. 4000 West, Salt Lake City, UT 84120, by May 3. Winners will be announced during National Be Kind to Animals Week, May 6-12.
