French Jaguar fighter-bombers and Mirage F-1 reconnaissance planes carried out two raids Monday against units of Sad-dam Hussein's elite Republican Guard inside Iraq, the Defense Ministry said.

The raids were carried out jointly with planes from other allied nations fighting in the Persian Gulf, but the Defense Ministry did not reveal the identity of the other countries that participated or the number of planes involved. The planes bombed the mechanized units of the elite Republican Guard near the Iraqi-Kuwaiti border, and all the French fighters and reconnaisance aircraft returned safely to their base in Saudi Arabia, ministry spokesman Col. Jacques Rolland said.
