A number of auditions are scheduled in the coming week for vocalists:

- AUDITIONS WILL BE held on Saturday, Feb. 9, from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Promised Valley Playhouse lobby for singers interested in enrolling in the fifth annual International Vocal School (July 8-20). Those auditioning should bring their own accompanist. (Call 801-364-5696 to make an audition appointment.)Vocal School director Iain B. McKay said those who cannot attend the live audition should submit a cassette tape of their singing. It need not be professionally produced, but should be of sufficiently high quality to allow proper assessment.

The school is co-sponsored by the Playhouse, the Canadian Resource Centre for Career Performing Artists, the Israel Vocal Arts Institute and the Australian Singing Competition. It features individualized instruction, and registration is limited so classes can be kept small.

Myer Fredman, British conductor and consultant to the Australian Opera, will be artistic director. Among master teachers will be Joan Dornemann, coach of the Metropolitan Opera; Vera Rozsa, British vocal teacher; Margaret Schaper, chair of vocal studies, University of Southern California; and Miklos Szinetar, stage director of the Hungarian State Opera. Mezzo-soprano Mignon Dunn will give a special workshop.

Fees for the program are $300 for full participants; $100 for an overture class for high school age and older, to introduce them to the world of singing; and $50 for observers. The fee includes admission to all classes, lectures, public concerts and social events.

- THE SALT LAKE VOCAL ENSEMBLE has openings for tenor and bass vocalists. Those interested in auditioning should contact William P. Drews at 942-1257.

The 16-member choir performs choral works from all musical periods, offering two major concerts each year. They rehearse on Tuesday evenings at Zion Lutheran Church, 1070 S. Foothill Drive.

- THE GERMAN CHORUS HARMONIE needs additional singers for its spring concert, to be held on April 27. Any soprano, alto, tenor or bass interested in joining may call Werner Schmidt, musical director, at 486-6739.
