LaVera R. McArthur Pelt, age 82, died Wednesday, January 23, 1991 in St. George, Utah.
She was born February 8, 1908 in St. George, Utah to James and Elizabeth Oxborrow McArthur. She married Oliver Burton Pelt, August 10, 1949 in St. George, Utah. He died October, 1960.She attended schools in St. George, graduating from Dixie High School, Dixie College and the University of Utah. She completed post graduate work at both Berkeley and BYU, majoring in Physical Education with a minor in English. She taught school in Bunkerville and Mesquite, Nevada; Franklin Grade School in Salt Lake City; Dixie High School and Woodward Junior High School in St. George. She was a wonderful teacher and a favorite of many students. She was an active member of the LDS Church. She was an artist with needlepoint. Served as Speech Merit Badge Counselor for the Boys Scouts. She was a member of the Washington County Library Board. She worked for the McArthur Quality Bakery. Served as Post Mistress and also worked for the Utah Parks. Mrs. Pelt was an avid supporter of Dixie High School and Dixie College Athletics. She was a recipient of the Dixie College Alumni Award 3 years ago.
LaVera is survived by sisters and brothers, Mrs. Wayne (Bessie) Gardner, Joseph McArthur, Mrs. Darrell (Ina) Bracken and Andrew O. McArthur, all of St. George; 20 nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 26, 1991 at 2 p.m. in the St. George 2nd LDS Ward Chapel, 165 South Main St. Friends may call at the Spilsbury Desert Rose Memorial Chapel on Saturday from 11:30 to 1:30. Burial: St. George City Cemetery.
