Arthur Henry Combe, age 87, died Wednesday, January 23, 1991 at the St. George Care Center.

He was born March 9, 1903 in Ogden, Utah to John and Henrietta Gardiol Combe. He married Florence Kathleen McDonald December 1, 1928 in Ogden, Utah. Reared and educated in Ogden, Utah, Mr. Combe founded the Valley Nursery Inc. there. He enjoyed traveling in the western states for many years. before settling in Beaver Dam in 1965. Here, he founded the Desert Botanical Gardens and Arboretum (Nut House) where he grew many varieties of exotic desert plants (Pistachios, cactus, red seed watermelon). It was visited and enjoyed by thousands of people including regular tours from a number of university botany departments. Many articles have been written on his achievements in newspapers and magazines.He was a member of the LDS Church, where he had served as High Priest group leader, superintendent of the Sunday School, home teacher, temple ordinance worker and Sunday School teacher. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge in Ogden and Dixie.

Surviving family members include one son and one daughter, Arthur Basil, Ogden; and Mrs. Howard (Myrna) Quinn, Beaver Dam, Arizona; also ten grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; one brother and two sisters, John W. Combe, Ogden; Mrs. Ernest (Mabel) Hale, Beaver Dam, Ariz.; and Mrs. Edward (Ethel) Loveday, Kimberly, Idaho.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., (Utah time) Saturday, January 26, 1991, in the Metcalf Mortuary Chapel, 288 West, St. George, where friends may call Friday evening, from 7-8 p.m. and again on Saturday, one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Beaver Dam, Arizona Cemetery under direction of Metcalf Mortuary.
