A 64-year-old Salt Lake man was arrested and booked into jail Friday after a woman told police he raped her.

The 30-year-old woman, of West Valley City, said she was crying and upset when she met the man at a pay phone Friday near 350 S. Main Street. He invited her to his apartment and allowed her to fix herself a meal. She said the man offered her some pills that would make her feel better. She took two of them, felt drowsy and then passed out, a police report stated.The woman said she woke up to discover that the man was raping her. She said he put his hand over her mouth to stop her from screaming. Neighbors later reported hearing screams, the report said.

The woman managed to escape following the rape and immediately phoned police. The woman also said a small amount of money was missing from her purse. Officers later arrested the 64-year-old man and booked him into jail for investigation of rape and theft.
