Something funny starts happening to northern Utahns this time of year. They dream of warm weather and sunshine. Like birds, they head south to warmer, sunnier environs. Enough of this smog and snow.
What follows is a roundup of goings-on in what we have dubbed Sun & Fun Country. You won't find it on a map. But you will find it if you head south - to southern Utah, southern Arizona, southern California.ST. GEORGE
Upcoming events in Utah's Dixie:
- Golden Sunfest, a trade show presented by area businesses, Feb. 7, 8, 9, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Dixie Center's Smith Convention Center.

Disneyland is open from 10 to 6 on weekdays and 9 to midnight on weekends. Admission is $27.50 for adults, $22.50 for children 3-10. Southern California residents can purchase up to five tickets for $20 a piece, so now may be the time to rekindle a relationship with your long lost southern California relatives. Beginning March 15, characters from Disney's "Afternoon Live" will meet with visitors and present a show on the Videopolis stage. For information call (714) 999-4000.
It's whale-watching time and no where do you get a better view than at Dana Point, off I-5 half-way between Los Angeles and San Diego. Grey whales migrating from Alaska to the coast of Baja come within a couple of hundred yards of shore. Dana Wharf Sport Fishing will take you for a boat ride for an even closer look. Knott's Berry Farm
Knott's Berry Farm will celebrate the coming of spring with an old-fashioned Country Fair March 23-April 7. There will be races, games and pie-eating contests. Headline entertainment each weekend is icing on the country cake. Hours are 10 to 6 Mon., Thur., Fri.; 10 to 10 Sat.; anmd 10 to 7 Sun. Admission: $21.95 adults; $9.95 children 3-11. Sea World winter hours are 9 to 5. Admission is $22.95 for adults, $16.95 for children 3-11. Among the park's most popular attractions: Baby Shamu's Celebration starring a two-year-old killer whale and the first killer whale born in captivity that is now five years old; Penguin Encounter is in the midst of breeding season which means you'll see new-born checks as well as parents tending eggs. The shark exhibit features nine species of sharks. You can touch and feed bat wrays at Forbidden Reef's Bat Wrey Shallows and observe eels at Morray Eel Caverns. Sea otters rescued from the oil spill in Price William Sound are still at Sea World.
"Great Walks of Southern Arizona" is a new, full-color, pocket-sized walking guide. It describes six different scenic wintertime walks near Tucson that include Saguaro National Monument and its giant cacti; Wasson Peak and Sabino and Pima Canyons. The book also describes two walks in the Superstition Mountains near Phoenix.
