Black South African Defense Force soldiers shot and killed two white policemen and wounded a third in a volley of rifle fire at a military base in troubled Natal province, police said Saturday.

The three officers, who were apparently investigating a disturbance at the Craigieburn base around 8 p.m. Friday, fired back before being hit and seriously wounded one soldier, police spokesman Maj. Coert Marais said.Neither the SADF nor police would give any explanations for the incident.
