A special Mass at 11 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, will begin a yearlong celebration commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Catholic Diocese of Salt Lake City. The Most Rev. William K. Weigand, bishop of the diocese, will celebrate the Mass in the Cathedral of the Madeleine, 331 E. South Temple.

On Monday evening, Jan. 28, a banquet will be held at 7 p.m. in the Red Lion Hotel in Salt Lake City. A social hour is scheduled at 6 p.m. Sister Kathleen Nelligan, CSC, (Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross), former superior general of the Sisters of Holy Cross and a native Utahn, will deliver the keynote address, "A Journey of Faith in the Land of Zion."Tickets ($50 per person) for the banquet may be obtained from the Diocesan Pastoral Center, 27 C St., 328-8641. The centennial will culminate with a major celebration on Sunday, April 14, at the Huntsman Special Events Center at the University of Utah.
