Gov. Norm Bangerter signed a contract Friday that calls for the family of the late Ab Jenkins to renovate the "Mormon Meteor" car now on display at the State Capitol. On hand for the signing were Ab's son, Marv, right, and Marv's wife, Noma. After the renovation, it will be moved to the state history museum in the old Rio Grande railroad depot. The contract calls for the car to be owned by a trustee that has yet to be named. The state will spend up to $40,000 to restore the car, which set speed records on the Salt Flats, and establish a scholarship at Dixie College in St. George. The family had complained the state was not taking proper care of the car.
