Fourth and fifth-graders in Granite District will get encouragement in their resolve to stay drug-free through a "Project Teamwork" conference today at Central High School, 3031 S. 200 East.
The district and the Utah Federation for Drug-Free Youth are co-sponsoring the event. About 325 students are expected to attend.Nationwide, one in four fourth graders report they have been pressured to use drugs, alcohol or tobacco. The median age for first-time use is 11.5 years, or fifth-grade age.
The conference will focus on building positive elements in a child's life to reduce the temptation to turn to artificial "highs."
