The Salt Lake City and West Valley City police departments have taken steps to show their support for soldiers, especially those called from within their departments.

Salt Lake City Police Chief Mike Chabries released a letter Wednesday saying the Police Mutual Aid Association has made arrangements for all personnel to be issued American flags, donated by Osco Drug, and yellow ribbons they can attach to police vehicles to indicate the hope for a safe and speedy return of the soldiers involved. Four officers from the department are members of reserve-component forces that have been called to active duty in support of the gulf operation. In West Valley City, American flag decals are being placed on all marked patrol cars to show support for department employees and others serving in Operation Desert Storm. Three members of the department are away on military duty supporting the gulf conflict.
