With the Miss Moscow beauty contest a rousing success, the Soviet Union will choose a Miss USSR next year and could very well parade its best beauty right onto the runways of international competition.
The Soviet Union, which under Mikhail Gorbachev has broken from its past isolation on many global fronts, hinted Friday that it may take the ultimate international plunge and enter the Miss World pageant."The Miss World Beauty pageant this year celebrates its 100th anniversary," the official Soviet news agency Tass said. "Why not adopt the best parts of its experience? Why do the most beautiful Soviet representatives of the fair sex have to remain on the sidelines of these prestigious competitions?"
