Police detectives are investigating three separate rapes of teenagers that occurred in Salt Lake County during the past week.
A 15-year-old Sandy girl said she was raped in the 700 South and 1000 West area by a man who claimed to be a gang member. The girl said she went with a friend to a dance at a pool hall in the area of 3500 South and Redwood Road this past Friday night. While at the dance, they met two men and left with them to go to a party at another location.
There, the girl and a man remained in the car alone. The man then forced the girl to disrobe and raped her. The girl said the man slapped her four times and threatened to shoot her several times during the incident.
The girl was reported missing by her mother Friday night but did not return home until Sunday. Salt Lake police say they do not believe the rape is connected to a series of rapes of young girls that have occurred over the past 10 months in the west Salt Lake area.
A 17-year-old girl also reported that she was raped early Wednesday. Salt Lake police said the victim was picked up at 1700 S. State and then driven to a secluded location. There, a man raped her at gunpoint.
An 18-year-old Salt Lake woman said she was raped near 3400 S. West Temple as she was walking to work Tuesday night. The woman's assailant tied her hands behind her back, raped her and forced her to perform a sexual act, according to a Salt Lake County sheriff's report.
