A spokesman for Nissan Motor Corp. U.S.A. said Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. will build Nissan's new Pulsar sports car at its Yajima Plant in Ohta City, Japan, starting this May.
The announcement marks the first joint cooperation program between Fuji and Nissan in several years."We are also looking at various other areas of cooperation in technology and manufacturing," Nissan spokesman Jim Gill said, adding that Nissan Motor Co. Ltd., which has a 4 percent stake in Fuji, was approached by Fuji last year to explore possible joint ventures.
"Nissan has production capacity restraints and this is a natural tie," Gill said.
The Pulsar models to be built by Fuji are the four-door sedan and three-door hatchback, which Nissan is now producing at its Tochigi Plant. Production will be for the Japanese market only, Gill said.
The Pulsar models will be built on the same line at the Yajima plant, where Fuji is now producing its Legacy and Leone cars.
