Kevin Kearney scored 19 points to lead Montana to a 72-60 victory over Weber State Wednesday night as the Grizzlies took sole possession of first place in the Big Sky Conference.
Montana improved to 6-1 in the league and 14-5 overall in handing the Wildcats their fourth straight loss as they fell to 1-4 and 6-10.The Wildcats trailed just 34-30 at the half, thanks mainly to 14 of 17 shooting at the free throw line, and were down only 46-43 before Montana pulled away during the last 14 minutes.
Kearney started a decisive 17-6 run with a dunk at the 13:30 mark. Reserve forward Nate Atchison keyed the charge with all six of his points and capped the run with two free throws that made it 63-49 with 7:37 left.
The Grizzlies took their biggest lead at 72-55 with 59 seconds left on a pair of free throws from Kearney.
Delvon Anderson added 11 points, a game-high 16 rebounds and 5 assists for the Grizzlies, who also got 14 points and 10 rebounds from Daren Engellant.
The only players in double figures for the Wildcats were Jason Joe with 13 points and Aaron Bell with 11.
