A senior Iraqi Embassy official expelled for alleged involvement in a failed bomb attack on a U.S. facility last week left Manila Thursday, saying he was through with his job as a diplomat and was now preparing to take up a gun.
Muwafak Al-Ani, 41, first secretary in the Iraqi embassy in Manila, departed aboard a Malaysian Airlines jet for Kuala Lumpur and Tehran en route home to Baghdad. He was accompanied by his wife, Najila, 35, and sons Omar, 10, and Mustapha, 8."The war has two fronts, diplomatic and military," Al-Ani said before his departure. "Our people can adjust and go from diplomacy to holding a rifle. I finished my diplomacy and I will go to fight."
