A Salt Lake man died early Wednesday after being shot in what may have been a robbery of the convenience store where he worked.

Police said Tod J. Menuey, 26, 718 E. 300 South, was working at a Circle K store at the northeast corner of North Temple and Redwood Road when he was apparently taken to a restroom at the rear of the store and shot in the back of the head with a small-caliber pistol. The incident occurred between 12:30 and 1 a.m., police said.About 1 a.m., two customers entered the store, gathered items for purchase and waited at the counter. When no one came, they looked around the store and found Menuey unconscious in the restroom.

Police were summoned and Menuey was taken to LDS Hospital where he died about 4:10 a.m., said Salt Lake police Lt. Jim Bell.

Bell, who is heading the homicide investigation, said the cash register tape indicates that a purchase was made in the store about 12:30 a.m. Menuey had been employed by Circle K for less than one year, Bell said. Police have no suspects.
