A Vigil for Peace, sponsored by the Utah Valley Ministerial Association, is scheduled Thursday evening at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Provo.

The vigil will start at 7:30 p.m. at 50 W. 200 North. The association met Wednesday, just hours before the attack on Iraq, and passed a resolution encouraging negotiations and reconciliation in the Persian Gulf crisis.

The resolution condemned the Iraqi invasion and occupation of Kuwait and called for justice in the Middle East and prayers for the United State's military forces in the gulf and their families.

"These concerns remain valid, even though hostilities have broken out," said the Rev. Garret Edmunds, association president. "We invite all people of good will to join us in prayers on Thursday for a rapid and just end to the war in the Persian Gulf."

The association consists of most non-LDS pastors and ministers in Utah Valley as well as some LDS leaders. Edmunds belongs to the Order of Friars Minor and is pastor of the St. Francis Catholic Church in Provo.
