Classes from basketball and dinosaurs to pottery and kids in the kitchen will be offered during Salt Lake School District's winter session of after-school specials.
Beginning Feb. 1, a variety of classes will be offered for one hour in six-week blocks at the district's six participating elementary schools - Bonneville, Dilworth, Emerson, Hawthorne, Uintah and Washington. Each school has between six and eight classes.The classes are offered for one-hour after school, except for a field trip/swim class, co-sponsored with County Recreation, that runs for two hours on Fridays.
A $20 or $22 fee is charged, depending upon the class, to pay for the teacher's salary and supplies.
Among the winter offerings are a basketball clinic, tai chi/kong fu, fiber art, shibori/tye dye and batik, seanachie storytelling, dinosaur discovery, mud club, jazz/rap, cartoon drawing and writing, creative dance, and youth theater and dance.
