Barbados' conservative ruling Democratic Labor Party faced stiff competition from the island nation's main opposition party in Tuesday's general elections, analysts said.

The ruling Democratic Labor Party, or DLP, of Prime Minister Erskin Sandiford, the Barbados Labor Party, or BLP, and the newly-formed National Democratic Party, or NDP, wrapped up their campaigns at midnight Monday.Sandiford, in his last public appearance before voters went to the polls, urged Barbadians to give his party the chance to continue the work it began since being elected in 1986.
