Boston Red Sox pitcher Roger Clemens and his brother were arrested early Saturday following an incident at a Houston nightclub, police said.
Clemens, 28, and his brother Gary, 39, were arrested at 1:30 a.m CST at Bayou Mama's nightclub and charged with aggravated assualt, said police spokesman Dan Turner. They were charged with the Class A misdemeanor, jailed and posted $2, 000 bond, Turner said.
Turner said the Red Sox pitcher allegedly was involved in an altercation at the nightclub when a uniformed off-duty police officer working security at the club arrived at the scene.
The officer tried to break up the incident when Clemens' older brother, Gary, "stepped in to defend his brother by physcially involving himself with the officer," Turner said. "The officer was struck a number of times."
The officer then arrested Gary Clemens, at which point Roger Clemens intervened and also was arrested, Turner said.
