Ex-Beatle Paul McCartney has teamed with conductor Carl Davis to write his first classical work, to be performed later this year by 200 musicians and vocalists with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.

McCartney's at least partly autobiographical "Liverpool Oratorio" will aim to chronicle the life of a Liverpool baby born during World War II.Says the singer-songwriter, "This has all been very fresh and exciting for me. I never really had any classical music education."
